About
Worldwide Natural Resources Plc (“WNR”) is listed on the London PLUS Market (PLUS: WNR). WNR is focused on securing coal fines deposits in South Africa in order to exploit its proprietary HEAP technology.
WNR is capable of expanding into a highly successful waste to energy company that will not only continue to strive to successfully create value for its shareholders but also fulfill it’s environmental objectives to remove what is an environmental hazard.
Waste from coal mining is a long-standing environmental concern within the industry. Waste dumps or slag heaps create an environmental hazard, with acid leached water and toxic trace elements emanating from them. It is estimated that up to 20 per cent. of mined coal can be rejected and deposited as slag heaps. There is an abundance of coal waste (`coal fines') worldwide. Typically coal fines are deposited at the surface near the mine site, creating potential environmental harm.
Using the HEAP process coal fines can be removed, processed and used as coal pellets, which experience strong demand for electricity generation and blast furnaces.
The HEAP process uses a proprietary chemical package with standard pelletising technology to produce a range of low moisture fuels, which is the key to creating high calorific value. The low moisture level is achieved without thermal drying or pressure, making it more efficient and economically viable than traditional methods. Pellets are spherical, about one inch in diameter, with a large surface and hard semi-permeable shell. The shape and structure make the pellets suitable for storage and transportation and durable enough to withstand prolonged submersion in water.
The pellets can provide benefits to power generating companies (including cost savings of 15 to 20 per cent. a cleaner burn, reduced chute blocking and the potential to be combined with other materials to benefit from carbon credits).
